The nose is an organ which is located in the centre of the face and causes a serious deterioration in the aesthetic appearance when it is inharmonious with the other parts of the face. Rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgeries. It can be performed after the age of 17-18 years.
When a patient consults his/her doctor, he/she is examined and the type of the nose fitting his/her face is planned by means of a special computer software. This is an important step for the patient to get an idea about the operation.
Operation is usually performed under general anaesthesia. The nose is entered through an incision, which is 99% made inside the nose, and the nasal skeleton is shaped. At the end of surgery, silicone leaves are placed inside the nose and a plaster splint is placed on the outside. No pad is used. At the end of the first week, the plaster splint is removed and a small bandage is applied. At the end of the second week, both bandage and silicone leaves are removed.
After removing the plaster, the patient is checked in the 3rd week, 1.5th month, 3rd month, 6th month, 9th month, 12th month and every year. If there is a need for a little touch-up, no intervention is made to the nose before the end of the 1st year since the nose is expected to get its final form.
